Doesn't YOUR Dog Deserve the Best?

Board & Train

The video below shows Zoe, a very exciteable Pit Bull Terrier on her 7th day of training!  She is on the "Down/Stay" command.  You can see our resident cat, Wally, is really testing Zoe's self control!  Not bad for only 7 days of work by PCOS!!

Our Board & Train program utilizes real life distractions to train your dog!  Dogs are worked around Wally the cat, other dogs, people, toys, cars, etc.

The video below shows Shadow a 14 month old Black Lab on his second day of Board & Train at PCOS.

Shadow was brought to us with aggression issues, he was nervous and fearful around new dogs which caused him to react aggressively towards them.  Shadow's owner wasn't able to control him around other dogs while out on a walk.

After 2 days of training, you can see that Shadow is happy, wagging his tail and calmly greeting several dogs in our front office, all while on a relaxed LOOSE leash.

You will notice that we are not using food as a reward, but instead are petting and verbally praising Shadow.

A well trained dog will do anything for you! This cute trio is posing for a Christmas card photo using the "Sit/Stay" they learned at PCOS!
Our Board and Train program is priced as follows:

$875 for two weeks of training, ONE in-home Private lesson, PLUS 6 follow-up training classes once your dog has completed the training.

Boarding with us?  If your dog has already been through Board & Train OR Latchkey, you can schedule your dog for refresher training sessions for ONLY $30 per day!

Board & Train

Park Cities Obedience School operates with the philosophy that there is virtually no dog that can't be helped.  Our intensive two-week in-kennel "boot camp" Board & Train program has achieved tremendous results in reclaiming dogs with severe behavioral problems, including aggression, separation anxiety, barking dogs, dogs that bite, extreme shyness or lack of socialization.

This in-kennel Board & Train program was created for those owners who do not have the time, energy, or desire to train their own dog in a group dog training class or private dog training lessons. In this program, dogs are brought to our convenient location close to Highland Park, University Park, Downtown, Uptown, North Dallas and Lakewood.  Here they undergo an intensive two-week in-kennel "boot camp" Board & Train program.

Dogs who are enrolled in our Board & Train program stay overnight with us.  During the day they participate in a training regimen administered by each of our animal behavior experts, and all training is supervised by Phil Marr.  Our training emphasizes quiet commands, showing the dog what is expected and then quickly rewarding a correct response.  We use repetition and consistency to shape the dog's behavior until it becomes a habit.

Your dog will be taught the following obedience commands:

SIT

DOWN

STAY

COME WHEN CALLED (on a 20' long line)

NOT TO JUMP ON PEOPLE

NOT TO RUN OUT OPEN DOORS

ATTENTION TO NAME

WALKING ON A LOOSE LEASH

NOTE:  All commands will be done ON LEASH.

We also work on problems such as barking, aggression towards dogs/people, shyness around other dogs/people, puppy play biting, etc.

Our Dog Obedience Training Methods

Our animal training methods use toys and play (NOT food) to make learning fun for the dogs.  Our goal is to produce a dog that looks forward to the training sessions and enjoys the learning process.  We teach dogs to want to work for you and seek rewards of verbal praise, pats and hugs, not the food in your hand.

Initially, we work with your dog one-on-one, with very little distraction, until he understands the exercise being taught. As the dog progresses, he is worked with another dog nearby, then another, until he is able to execute all the commands in the presence of multiple distractions such as: dogs, toys, food and people.

Each day new obedience exercises are introduced as the dog grasps those already taught. After two weeks of effective training, you get a pleasant family companion.

No More Bad Behaviors

Our in-kennel Board & Train program focuses on all of the basic obedience commands with special attention given to those commands that make your life more enjoyable:  attention to name, sit, down, stay, come when called, and walk on a loose leash.  We also correct jumping, barking, biting, chewing and any other behavior problems your dog may have.

What Can I Expect After I Bring My Dog Home?

We have worked hard to train your dog while he/she has been with us for Board & Train.  Your dog has worked hard to learn an entirely new set of commands and behaviors.  We want YOU to be as proud of your dog as we are!  We also want you to feel that we have done the best job possible of training your dog.

To this end, we've come up with the following list:

You CAN expect to have a 'show and tell' when you come to pick your dog up.  You will watch while one trainer works your dog and another trainer talks you through the commands.

You CANNOT expect to interact with your dog while he/she is being worked.  You will be in a different room watching through a two-way mirror.

You CAN expect to have any and all of your questions about your dog answered.

You CANNOT expect your dog to be a robot when you pick him/her up.  They will have spent two weeks learning new behaviors and commands.  While your dog is away from home, two weeks feels like an eternity!  But in the grand scheme of your dogs life so far, two weeks is a VERY short time!

You CAN expect your dog to be VERY tired.  Most owners report their dogs spend a day or two sleeping after they get back home.  This is because they have spent a very busy two weeks participating in intensive training sessions and playing with other dogs.

You CAN expect to spend time working with your dog at home and using the commands in your day to day routine.

You CAN expect to spend time reading through the written materials that will be given to you the day you pick your dog up.

You CANNOT expect your dog to immediately work for you the same way he works for us.  Your dog works so beautifully for us because your dog respects us.  You must gain your dog's respect through consistent and fair leadership.  Dogs, like people, will willingly work for those they respect.  On the flip side, like your children, your dog will 'blow you off' if he/she doesn't respect you!

You CAN expect to spend one hour a week for 6 weeks coming (with your dog) to a Monday evening class that meets from 7-8pm.  These classes are a VERY important part of the training your dog has received.  Remember, Practice Makes Perfect!

You CANNOT expect your dog to be working OFF LEASH after only two weeks of training.  There are a few exceptions to this.  If your dog came into our Board & Train program with previous training, we can skip forward and work on more advanced exercises with your dog.  Depending on your dog's maturity level, personality and temperament, this MAY include off leash obedience work.

Calli's Owner Sandy Has High Praise For PCOS!

Happy Calli at Board & Train!
Hi there,

I just wanted to send a quick note and thank Park Cities Obedience for training my Calli girl. Calli was about 6 months old (Labrador/mix) when she went in for the 2 week board/train. When I picked her up....she was so well behaved. I will say consistency and patience is key, and her pack leader is a bit tired too! hee, hee. However, her training has been so helpful in our day to day lives.

I really like that I don't have to give her a treat every time she does something good....praise, praise, praise goes a long way. As it should be! When we go to the dog park, she has received soooooo many compliments! "Oh, she's so precious and so well behaved!" I love it and I'm so proud of her.

Thanks again!

A very thankful pack leader and happy dog,
Sandy and Calli

P.S. I also attached a picture of happy Calli!

The Board and Train Program: Strengthening Family Bonds

Sometimes, the best opportunity to train your dog is when you go on vacation. You can leave your dog with the dog training experts.

Scott and Blake Barclay-Just decided that the perfect time to enroll their new puppy, Sargeant, in Park Cities Obedience School’s dog “boot camp” Board and Train program was when they were away on a cruise. They also boarded their other dog, Duke, so the two weimaranars could be together.

“They get anxious when they’re not with each other,” Blake says. “They are inseparable.”

Molding Ruby Into A Canine Good Citizen

When Cindy Gleason adopted 8-week-old Ruby, a Toy Poodle, she enrolled her in the puppy classes at Park Cities Obedience School.

"It was a beginning. The classes actually taught me, more than her, which I think was the plan."

In January, Cindy began traveling with her job, so she enrolled Ruby in Park Cities Obedience School’s intensive Board and Train Program in which dogs stay a full two weeks – including overnight for training.
